Steps on How to Hold On to Your Healing

Can we talk about healing today? More than likely you have prayed for healing for either yourself or for someone else. When God answers your prayers for healing, did you know that the healing is yours, for good? If not, let’s talk about how to hold on to your healing when God has healed you.

How to hold on to your healing.

A few months back, I shared this testimony about keeping what belongs to you and now I would like to teach you how to hold on to your healing.

After seven years, I finally realized that the enemy had stolen my healing from me. But let me start from the beginning so you get the full picture. Grab your cuppa coffee as you read and ponder this teaching of how to hold on to your healing.

God Healed Me

In 1984, God healed me from a sharp, persistent pain in my right hip joint.

In the prayer room at 100 Huntley Street, the prayer facilitator had a word from the Lord that God wanted to heal someone of arthritis in their right hip.

At that very moment, I was experiencing sharp, dagger-like pain. I said to God that I accepted His healing even though I didn’t know it was arthritis. It was as simple as that and I was healed instantly, praise the Lord!

The Enemy Came to Steal

The enemy tried several times to steal my healing within the first year. In fact, it was less than two months after the healing when he first jabbed me with pain in my hip.

Each time he stabbed me with pain, I would rebuke and resist him. I reminded him that he could not steal my healing. I reminded him Whose daughter I am and he would leave.

Over the years, he would return less frequently as he saw that I was standing my ground as I would not let him steal it from me. I was holding on to my healing!

Some Scripture verses to keep handy are 1 Peter 2:24, Matthew 8:17, and Isaiah 53:4–5. Remind the devil of what the Word says.

Fast forward from 1984 to the summer of 2010, I began to experience a dull, throbbing ache in my right hip. It was nothing like the sharp dagger pain. So, I began to take glucosamine for the pain and have been taking it ever since as the pain spread to the left hip.

Fast forward again to one morning in April 2018, I woke up thinking about the dull pain and wondered why it was so persistent.

Was this the result of an aging body or was it something more? It was at that moment that God whispered in my spirit that the enemy had stolen my healing.

The enemy is sneaky, sly, deceptive and relentless. He used a different pain to steal my healing, one that I would not associate with the original pain and therefore, I didn’t fight him.

The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy.

Take Back What was Stolen

At the realization that I had allowed the enemy to steal what God had given me, there was only one thing I could do.

So, in prayer, I repented for not recognizing the wiles of the enemy. With tears in my eyes, I asked God what I could do to take back my healing.

He said I had already begun that process with the acknowledgment of what I had done and with repentance.

That’s when I went to work and began to resist the devil. I told him I was taking back what God gave me and he could no longer keep what belongs to me. The battle was on and I was determined to win back what was mine to keep. I was going to hold on to my healing once and for all!

Use Your God-given Authority

Sister, as believers in Christ, you have the authority to use the name of Jesus. You are covered by the blood of the Lamb and walk in righteousness. You belong to God and have the necessary armour to fight our spiritual enemy.

Use your God-given authority to fight the enemy.

That night I did not take any glucosamine and the next morning I had a little bit of pain.

I resisted the enemy again and repeated this until he no longer returned with pain. It took about three days for me to win the battle.

I no longer take glucosamine twice a day, nor do I wake up in pain. And there is no pain throughout the day. I had my healing back, praise God!

So, sister, when God heals you, it is for life. Do not let the enemy steal your healing. Use the authority that God has given you to keep what is yours.

When God heals you, it is for life!

Why Believers Lose their Healing

This is going to make complete sense to you what I’m going to tell you next.

When God heals you from anything, let’s say chronic back pain, the healing is yours to keep. He has given it to you, it belongs to you and no one else. You are healed.

So why do believers lose their healing? What happened?

In our example of chronic back pain, the believer began to feel a twinge of pain and said to herself, “I guess God didn’t heal me because my back is sore again.”

Right there, the healing is lost. You’ve given it away to the enemy. And now, he has the right to come back at you with more pain, maybe even worse than what you had before.

Spoken words will lose the healing. Faith was not spoken, defeat was spoken.

I guess God didn’t heal me.

A lie was believed and the healing is gone.

Does God Take Back His Miracles?

Does this make sense to you? When God gives you something, is He going to take it back again? Does He give gifts only to claim them for Himself again?

No, that is not His character. When God gives you something, you can trust that it belongs to you. Jesus died on the cross so that we could have salvation and healing in His name.

So, when the pain returns, recognize that this is the enemy attempting to steal what God has given you. Remember what Jesus said in John 10:10: The thief comes to steal, to kill and to destroy…

So, stand your ground against the devil. Don’t let him steal from you. Let him who stole, steal no more!

Steps for How to Keep Your Healing

Through the prayer of faith, you received healing. Either the prayer was through someone else or yourself, God healed you. Your healing belongs to you.

But to hold on to your healing, it is your faith that needs to stand firm. It is your faith that will go to battle when the devil comes to steal what God has given you.

So, you need to build a strong faith. Read your Bible, know what it says concerning your authority in Christ and concerning healing.

Here are a few verses to begin building your faith.

Exodus 15:26  “… I am the Lord that healeth thee.”

Galatians 3:13  “Christ hath redeemed me from the curse of the law …”

Luke 10:19  “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Steps to Take Back Your Healing

However, if you do give up your healing, you can take it back by

  • acknowledging that you gave it up
  • repent for giving it up
  • ensuring you have on your spiritual armour
  • then stand on the word of God using the authority you have been given and take back what has been stolen. Resist him and he will flee, James 4:7.
  • be on guard for he will come back at you until he knows you are serious about keeping your healing. Stand steadfast as you resist him.

Repentance is key. Without repentance, the enemy will continually barge against you and you will wonder why you can’t win the victory. So, remember, repentance first, then resist.

Grow your faith to be strong in the Word. It is your faith that needs to stand firm, not someone else’s when you need to do battle.

Remember, your healing belongs to you.

That’s a Wrap

I hope this is an encouragement to you to keep what the Lord has given you. It is possible to hold on to your healing. God gives us good things and health and healing are part of that. Stand your ground, hold on to your healing by resisting the enemy and you will maintain your healing.

So, back to you now. Have you been healed and are you still walking in that healing? Or, like me, did you give it up by allowing the pain to take over?

Thank God, you can get your healing back! Follow the simple steps above then prepare for battle. Put on your spiritual armour, stand your ground and hold on to your healing.

Do you have a story to tell? I’d love to hear it!

Hi, Marie. I’m glad this was helpful for you as you hold on to the healing that God has given you. Have a blessed day and thanks for visiting.

Thank you for this study on keeping my healing. It makes so much sense to me now. I was healed from excruciating shoulder blade pain & lost my healing. God bless you for turning a light on for me.

Hi, Kristine…I’m so very glad this is a light-bulb moment for you. I know you will reclaim your healing and keep it. Know what? The devil still tries to steal my healing and now that I realize that he disguises it, I’m more aware of his attempted theft and can block him by rebuking him and standing against him. Blessings to you, Kristine!

  3. Cindy, thank you so much for all that you have written. I came to this post after following a path as I read about Holy Spirit. All of which I needed to learn in order to make a connection with how he works in my life. I heard clearly as I read each post to follow this link or that link which has taken me here. I feel Holy Spirit has handed me a key I needed to understanding. As I read this post, I heard very clearly, the stealing that is done doesn’t always involve healing of the body. It can be stealing of one’s sense of security, place and position with God. And God can use this to help wake us up to how far we have strayed from him. For instance, as I read, I was told quite clearly that the enemy stole my job from me which undermined my faith and trust. (I was laid off a job I had for 33 years, 3 years ago.) I felt weakened in mind and spirit to the point of a breakdown. It has been three years of feeling this way. In the midst of this feeling, I felt a deep calling to get to know God directly from reading the bible than relying on what I remember being taught as a child and teen. My path had strayed from him and though I have turned back to God, praying, reading the bible, seeking fellowship with others, I didn’t understand why I continued to feel this way and why I felt continually blocked from a path I felt I was being shown to follow. After reading this, I now know it is because I have continued to allow the enemy to steal my faith and trust so that when I speak to God and listen to Holy Spirit, I do not feel strength in my trust that he will take care of me. With your explanation here, I now feel I have what I need to create a battle plan to take back what God gave me. Thank you, dear Cindy. <3 ~Patti Baer

Hi, Patti, I am so glad that this post was the piece you needed to understand what it means when satan comes to kill, steal and destroy. It doesn’t matter to him what he steals, as long as he steals something. Health, joy, peace of mind, finances, family relationships, friendships, careers and employment, everything is up for grabs to him if we aren’t aware of his tactics. I’m so glad you can now develop a strategy to take back what has been stolen from you and it’s more than your job. It’s also your faith and trust in God and in people as well as your peace and rest. Patti, please let me know of the victory when you receive it for you surely will. Jesus came to give you life in abundance and well, you know what that includes!
Thanks so much for visiting today and taking the time to let me know how much this meant to you. God is good! <3

      • God is good! I know the victory will come and I will let you know when it does. It might not come for a while but when it does I now the timing will be perfect. Thank you for responding so quickly and for being such a wonderful inspiration and guide. ❤ ~Patti

  6. Cindy, I thought about sending you just a private message but then I heard, no, it is important to be open about what has happened so maybe others reading this will know and be encouraged by it. You asked me to let you know of my victory when I receive it. For the past 3 years (I still can’t believe it has been that long, March 2016), since I was laid off of my job of 33 years, I have put in application after application for job postings which I knew I had the skills and abilities for. It was very frustrating because out of the numerous applications I was probably only contacted 4 or 5 times over the 3 years, and only 1 resulted in a job which was minimum wage and only part-time hours. I will have been working this job for 2 years this coming July, and during that time I continued to apply for better paying jobs, all with the same results. After I read your post, I prayed for God’s help. A bit later I also prayed and turned everything over to Him. In my prayer, I gave everything to Him and told Him whatever he wanted me to do I would do. I have to admit I was scared. I knew the enemy was whispering to me telling me what God wanted me to do would be things I didn’t want to do and I would hate whatever it was. Whenever I heard these things I just kept turning to God and asking him to help me have faith that whatever he wanted of me would be what I wanted. I had been so beat down by all of the non-responses to my job applications I had pretty much stopped applying any more. I thought, okay, I’ll go back to applying for jobs again now that this is in God’s hands but I kept hearing to take a break from it and not worry about it. I wasn’t sure if that was Holy Ghost speaking to me or whispers from the enemy. I looked at job postings but never applied to any, not understanding how I could ever improve my financial situation if I didn’t get a different job or how I could ever get a different job if I didn’t apply for jobs. Then on May 2nd, I saw a notice at work that another department was hiring and it was something I knew I could do. No experience was necessary and they would train. I wasn’t sure if this was something God wanted me to do so I prayed to him and asked him to give me a sign that I could not doubt. The very next morning he gave me that sign, not at all what I expected, but definitely left me in no doubt of what he wanted me to do. So I applied for the position. I came up against a very negative wall, which the enemy was using to try and keep me where I was, when I spoke to my manager and it was looking like she might not release me for the transfer. Again I prayed to God and said if you want me to do this then it is in your hands to make it happen. The very next day, I ended up in an unrelated discussion with the store manager. At the end of that discussion he brought up my request to transfer and asked if I wanted to work in the other department. I said I did but that my manager said she would have to think about it. He said, oh no, we are working on making it happen. Then the next day I heard I would be officially transferred on the 19th. But then this past Sunday, on Mother’s Day, when I was at work the store manager came to me and told me they needed to transfer me now and asked if that was okay. I said sure and now I officially am working in the new department. My only thought had been I would get training so I could then get another part-time job doing the same thing and thus be able to get full time hours and enough income that I needed. But after they changed my schedule for the new job, I discovered not only will I get the training I need but I will also be getting more hours, possibly enough that I won’t need to work another part-time job in order to make ends meet financially, especially with the increase in minimum wage coming in June. This all happened over this past week. I am amazed how quickly this all took place after struggling for 3 years. When God wants something to happen, IT HAPPENS, and nothing can stop it. This has definitely helped strengthen my faith and has shown me that handing everything over to God maybe a leap in faith but when I really allow him to have control, I really have nothing to worry about. So, thank you again for writing this post. It helped me to make corrections in my faith so that God could provide and steer my course in the direction he wants me to take. <3 ~Patti

Hi, Patti. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing story with me. God’s timing is not ours but when He answers, it’s always at the right time for us. I’m so glad you learned how to fully trust Him with your job situation. Your trust in Him will continue to grow as you rely on Him for even the smallest of things. I love your statement “when God wants something to happen, IT HAPPENS, and nothing can stop it.” That is so true! Always remember that greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
Again, I’m glad this this post was helpful for you to take back what the devil stole.
      Blessings, Cindy <3
